Rwanda Kayonza TUK

Rwanda Kayonza TUK

Located in the Kayonza district of Eastern Province, Rwanda, the TUK cooperative takes its name from Kinyarwanda, meaning "wishing for a abundant harvest and production." It is situated about 3 hours by car from the capital city of Kigali, in a region where endless banana trees and gentle hilly terrain harmonize over red soil.

Founded in 2011, it currently consists of 163 member farmers. Despite producing high-quality coffee due to its relatively high altitude within the eastern region, it remained a hidden gem that had not received much attention in Japan or overseas markets. Since 2014, in partnership with the NGO 'Sustainable Growers', they have been improving cultivation and processing methods, continuing to take on challenges to enhance quality through shade-grown cultivation and intercropping with banana trees.
