RWANDA KININI 9-6

RWANDA KININI 9-6

"Kinini," meaning "this big thing right here," is the name of both a collaborative network of cooperatives and a washing station in Kinini town that collects coffee from the neighbouring villages of Tumba and Mageragere. The cooperative members are predominantly women (85%), and their lot from Tumba Village stood out through IWCA connections. The project began with Jacquie Turner and Malcolm Clear, who initially started a school for children in Eastern Rwanda 10 years ago to help genocide survivors. Recognizing broader community needs, they expanded their support to include a local pharmacy, a micro-finance institution, and other essential services, before going on to establish the Kinini co-op.
